DOLPHINS FACING MUST-WIN CONFERENCE FINALE AFTER LOSS TO MOLLOY, 2-0

Rockville Centre, NY - The College of Staten Island Men's Soccer Team is now facing a must-win situation in next week's East Coast Conference regular season finale after losing to Molloy University earlier tonight, 2-1.  The Dolphins fall to 2-10-1 on the season with the defeat, but more importantly, they are now 1-5-1 in conference play with 4 points.  They still trail D'Youville, UDC, and STAC in the standings with just one conference game remaining.  The Lions are now 5-5-4 on the season and 3-0-3 against the ECC.  Currently, the Dolphins remain alive in the hunt for a playoff spot.  However, two or more points earned by any two of the three teams immediately ahead of them in the standings would eliminate CSI from playoff contention.

Molloy put immediate pressure on CSI goalkeeper Justin Karaburan and the Dolphins defense as they opened play with the first seven shots of the match.  The fifth attempt during that early onslaught found the back of the net when Sean Salgueiro put Molloy ahead 1-0.  However, the Dolphins responded by registering six of the last seven shots in the first half.  Of those seven shots, not a single one was on target, and the game reached halftime with Molloy leading by a single goal.

After a strong finish to the first half, the Dolphins only mustered a single shot during the final 45 minutes.  Meanwhile, Molloy attempted another 13 shots and scored the second goal of the match in the 50th minute.  Nick Leon doubled the Molloy lead with just over forty minutes to play, and it wasn't until the final minute that the Dolphins snapped a streak of 13 consecutive Lions shots.  Along the way, Karaburan kept the Dolphins in the match with three saves, but this wasn't enough as CSI went on to fall to Molloy 2-0.

Peterson Larose led the Dolphins in shots with three and Brian Kerilu accounted for the lone shot on goal.  Minus Miguel Espinosa who was issued his fifth yellow card of the season on Saturday, the Dolphins used just four substitutes in the match.  Six Dolphins played 90 minutes including their goalkeeper Karaburan who finished the match with five saves.

The Dolphins will face the University of New Haven at home on Saturday in non-conference play.  That match will be the back half of a Men's and Women's Soccer doubleheader and kick off at 2:30 PM.  Following Saturday's match against the Chargers, the Dolphins will wrap up the regular season on the road against UDC.  If two of the three teams immediately ahead of the Dolphins in the standings do not earn two or more points before that game, the Dolphins will remain alive in the playoff chase.
