RACEDAY: CROSS-COUNTRY COMPETES IN ECC CHAMPIONSHIP MEET

10/26/2024 5:00:00 AM

Williamsville, NY - The College of Staten Island Cross-Country Team heads to Williamsville, NY this morning as they compete in the East Coast Conference Cross-Country Championship for the fifth time in program history.  Last season, the CSI men placed fifth and the CSI women placed 8th in the conference championship meet in Rochester.  This season, Daemen University will host the meet at Bassett Park in Williamsville.

Last time out, Wayne Stephenson continued a standout season by setting the all-time CSI program record in the 8K at the NJIT Highlander Challenge.  Among 31 competing programs, the CSI men placed 19th and the women placed 21st at the meet.  Originally scheduled to compete at the SJLI Invitational last weekend, the team instead had two weeks off ahead of today's conference championship meet.

Joining Stephenson among the current CSI men who competed in last year's ECC Championship is Matthew Amato.  The former placed 24th overall in the 8K with a time of 28:38.9 while the latter clocked in with a time of 31:33.0.  For the CSI women, Elizabeth Nicotra, Alexandrea Jackson, and Angelina Guerriero all competed in the conference championship 5K for the Dolphins last season.  The Dolphins took fifth in the men's meet and finished just a few points shy of overtaking STAC for fourth.  Both the men and women will be looking to keep pace with Roberts Wesleyan as the Red Hawks won both the men's and women's last season.
