DOLPHINS SPLIT SEASON-OPENING DOUBLEHEADER WITH GOLDEY-BEACOM

Wilmington, DE – The College of Staten Island Softball Team opened their season with a thrilling win and lopsided defeat as they split today's doubleheader with Goldey-Beacom College.  The Dolphins open the year 1-1 and the Lightning move to 1-7 with the split.

GAME 1
The Dolphins fell behind 1-0 in the second inning, but CSI would never trail again.  The Dolphin bats erupted for nine runs in a third inning which saw them collect seven hits.  The big blows came off the bat of Olivia Wanser, Victoria Whalen, and Mariah Carcano who each drove in two runs.  This would be the last time CSI would score until the sixth when each team added a run to make the score 10-6 Dolphins.  CSI would take that lead into the seventh, but a four-spot tied the score when Bri Snover plated a pair with a two-RBI single.  The Dolphins would go in front one final time in the eighth on a Lightning throwing error, and this time, starting pitcher Kennedie Ruth re-entered to close the door on an 11-10 win.

GAME 2
The Dolphins fell behind early in game two and never recovered as the Lightning scored the first eight runs of the game. Wanser delivered her first career home-run to get the Dolphins on the board, but the Lightning extended the lead back to eight in the next half-inning as the Dolphins went on to lose 9-1 in five.

Wanser went 4-7 on the day with 5 RBI and Aileen Balderas also hit safely in both games.  In game one, Elizabeth Moore joined Whalen, Carcano and Wanser with multiple hits.  Despite losing her chance to pick up a win, Ruth earned the save in her Dolphins debut.

The Dolphins will take the field for their home-opener tomorrow afternoon when they host Chestnut Hill College for a doubleheader at 2 PM.
