SOFTBALL OPENS CONFERENCE PLAY WITH TWO COMEBACK VICTORIES OVER D'YOUVILLE

Staten Island, NY – The College of Staten Island Softball Team opened conference play earlier today with a pair of come-from-behind victories over D'Youville University.  After trailing 1-0, the CSI offense scored 10 times in a 10-7 win in game one.  In game two, the Dolphins took the early lead before falling behind 5-3.  Once again, CSI came back to win by a final score of 8-6.  The Dolphins begin conference play 2-0 and improve to 8-12 on the season.  The Saints end the day 5-15 and begin conference play 0-2.

GAME 1
Both teams had their share of opportunities early and it was the Saints that scored first.  A sacrifice fly brought home the game's first run, but an error on the play moved Halie Furkas all the way to third base.  Kennedie Ruth would limit the damage to one in the inning, and she would get plenty of run support after that.  A CSI ground ball tied the game at one, and three more CSI hits and a Saints error plated another five runs before the inning was over.  The 6-1 Dolphins lead stood until the sixth when the Saints struck for three runs.

Now leading 6-4, the Dolphins added some insurance in the home sixth inning.  Consecutive walks opened the inning, and consecutive hits by Bridget Motley and Anissa Acosta put the Dolphins ahead 8-4.  Another walk followed before Kassidy Latour and Aliveah Warner drove in two more CSI runs.  Now leading 10-4, Ruth returned to the circle three outs away from a complete-game victory.  However, it did not come easily as two walks and a dropped fly ball started the inning.  A single, hit batter, passed ball, and and another walk followed as the Saints drew to within three.  With the bases loaded and one out, Ruth was able to escape the inning and pick up the win as the Dolphins took the victory, 10-7.

GAME 2
The Dolphins opened the scoring in game two on an RBI single by Avery Mochrie.  A wild pitch then brought home another run before a groundout scored Mochrie from third to make it 3-0.  The 3-0 score didn't stand for long as D'Youville brought home two on a costly error by the Dolphins.  Officially scored an RBI single, a ground ball to right center rolled all the way to the wall.  The CSI error allowed a second run to score and brought the Saints to within a run, 3-2.

D'Youville would later tie the score in the fifth on an RBI single by Gianna Adamo.  Moments later, a wild pitch gave the Saints the lead, and a second run came home on the play as the Dolphins threw the ball away.  Now trailing for the first time, the Dolphins got even on a 2-RBI single by Acosta.  With the game tied at 5-5, the Saints briefly went ahead in the sixth on a sacrifice fly.  However, the Dolphins tied the score again on an infield single by Motley.  CSI then took the lead for good on another 2-RBI hit by Acosta as the Dolphins went on to win by a final score of 8-6.

Acosta went 4-4 in the first game and 2-3 with 4 RBI in the second game.  Motley also drove 3 runs on the day and Warner had 3 RBI in game one alone.  Overall, the CSI offense picked up where they left off on Wednesday and scored another 18 runs on 18 hits across the two games.

The Dolphins will be back at home on Monday when they face the Lightning of Goldey Beacom College at 3:30 PM.
