SOFTBALL EARNS DOUBLEHEADER SPLIT WITH GOLDEY-BEACOM BEHIND GAME TWO COMEBACK

Staten Island, NY – The College of Staten Island Softball Team picked up another come from behind win earlier today as they earned a split of their non-conference doubleheader against Goldey-Beacom College.  The Dolphins end the day 9-13 on the season while the Lighting finish the day 12-18.  The two teams have now split all three meetings all-time earning three wins each.  The season series between the two teams ends tied at two.

GAME 1
Game one began in a pitcher's duel with neither team scoring during the game's first three innings.  It was the Lightning that finally broke through for the first run in the fourth on a two-out RBI double by Autumn Simpson.  Leading 1-0, the Lightning struck for three more runs in the fifth behind a four-hit inning.  An error and walk opened the frame before a caught stealing erased the lead runner.  From their, four straight hits plated three runs before the inning finally ended on a double play.

Behind 4-0, the Dolphins got one run back in the fifth on an RBI single by Aileen Balderas.  However, the Lightning would score once in each of the next two innings to go ahead by five.  The Dolphins would go down quietly in the seventh as they went on to lose by a 6-1 final score.

GAME 2
The Lightning opened game two with a McKenna Frank base hit, but she was erased on a fielder's choice.  A stolen base put Alex Lowry in scoring position soon after, and she was singled home by Bryn Bohmann.  Leading 1-0, Goldey-Beacom would score two more in the third capped off by another RBI hit from Simpson.  Now trailing 3-0, the Dolphins would get on the board for the first time in the fourth inning.  An RBI groundout plated the first CSI run and left two in scoring position with two outs.  However, the Lightning were able to escape the jam and limit the damage to just the one run.

Goldey-Beacom would go on to get that run back on an RBI single by Morgan Scott in the fifth inning, but the Dolphins would mount a game-changing two-out rally in the home half of the inning.  Consecutive strikeouts opened the frame before back-to-back singles and a walk loaded the bases.  Anissa Acosta the singled home a pair on a blooper to left field, and Aliveah Warner doubled home two more to give CSI the lead.  The Dolphins then added an insurance run in the sixth, and Kennedie Ruth stranded the tying runs on base in the seventh to secure the 6-4 Dolphins victory.

Acosta and Balderas each went 2-4 in the game two victory and both finished the day with three hits.  Ruth earned the game two win coming on in relief with two outs in the third inning, and she allowed just one run in 4.1 innings.  Joining Acosta and Balderas with 2 RBI on the day was Warner, and all three now have at least 10 RBI on the season.

The Dolphins are currently scheduled to face Molloy University on Thursday afternoon at 3:00 PM.  However, inclement weather could force that game to be rescheduled.  Follow the CSI Softball schedule landing page for the latest schedule updates.
