SOFTBALL OPENS FLORIDA TRIP WITH SPLIT OF TWO GAMES IN WINTER HAVEN

Winter Haven, FL – The College of Staten Island Softball Team began their Florida trip early this morning against Bemidji State University and resumed action later this afternoon against California University of Pennsylvania.  In their first game, the Dolphins fell behind 3-0 but immediately tied the score in the first.  However, the Beavers scored 5 of the next 7 runs and took the win 8-5.  In their second game against the Vulcans, the Dolphins scored 4 runs across the first three innings.  This was more than enough for Kennedie Ruth who went the distance in a 4-1 win.  The Dolphins end the day 4-2 with the split of the two games and will resume action tomorrow morning at 10 AM.

GAME 1
The Beavers scored three times against Alexandra Frenza in the first inning, all three runs coming with two outs.  However, the Dolphins answered with three two-out runs of their own in the bottom half of the inning to even up the score.  CSI would then take their first lead in the second when Aileen Balderas doubled home the go-ahead run to make it 4-3.  That lead was short-lived as BSU scored two more in the third, but the Dolphins responded with a solo home-run by Anissa Acosta to even the score at 5-5.  From there, the Beavers would score the final three runs of the game in the sixth, and through CSI would bring the tying run to the plate in the seventh, the Dolphins went on to lose 8-5.

GAME 2

The Dolphins struck first in their second game of the day and never looked back as Bridget Motley singled home Mariah Carcano to give CSI the lead for good.  Anissa Acosta then singled home two more in the second, and this was all the run support that starter Kenndie Ruth would need.  The Dolphins would score once more in the third as a result of a Vulcans error, and Ruth would take care of the rest.  The Vulcans finally got on the board in the fifth, but the CSI starter escaped further damage in the inning.  The Vulcans then brought the tying run to the plate in the seventh with the game ending on a well-struck line drive straight to Carcano in center field.

The Dolphins are back in action tomorrow in Auburndale when they will Wayne State College at 10:00 AM and St. Cloud State University at 12:15 PM.  Audio for both games will be available on the CSI Sportsnet Youtube channel.
