Game Recap: Softball |

SOFTBALL'S THIRD DAY IN FLORIDA ENDS WITH PLAY AT THE PLATE TO EARN SPLIT OF TWO GAMES

Auburndale, FL – The College of Staten Island Softball Team played their fifth and sixth games in Florida earlier today and once again split their two results.  The Dolphins led both games by two runs at one point, but the University of Minnesota Crookston came from behind to beat the Dolphins, 3-2.  In their second game against Southwest Minnesota State University, the Dolphins held on to win 3-2 after Avery Mochrie cut down the trying run at the plate with an incredible throw from right field.  The Dolphins end the day 5-5 on the season with two more games to come tomorrow afternoon.

GAME 1
The Dolphins took their first lead of the day in the third inning of their first game against the Golden Eagles on an Aileen Balderas two-run homer, the first of her two long balls on the day.  The Dolphins nearly added to their lead in the fourth, but Kassidy Latour was robbed of a home run in center field.  That CSI lead would stand until the sixth when UMC scored three runs, all coming with two outs.  With two outs and one runner on, consecutive hits, a walk, and a third base-hit plated three runs.  CSI would get a base runner in the ninth, and Kassidy Latour made a second home run bid which would have won the game for the Dolphins.  However, she was once again robbed at the center field wall on an incredible catch.  The tying run would never advance past first after that, and the Dolphins lost by a single run.

GAME 2

The Dolphins once again took the lead early in game two as Balderas homered on the first pitch of the game to put CSI ahead 1-0.  That lead would grow to two on an unearned run in the third, but the Mustangs would respond with a run of their own in the bottom of the inning.  Neither team would score again until the fifth when the Dolphins scratched out a run to extend their lead back to two.  That lead was not in jeopardy again until the home seventh when SMSU loaded the bases in a 3-2 game with one out.  With the game on the line, a line drive was hit to right field tailing towards the line.  Coming up throwing, Mochrie cut down the tying run at the plate to win the game for the Dolphins, 3-2.

The Dolphins return to the Diamondplex tomorrow afternoon when they will face West Virginia Wesleyan College and Lynn University.  Live stats and audio will be available for game one, and live stats will be available for game two.
