DOLPHINS DROP TWO GAMES ON FINAL DAY IN FLORIDA

Winter Haven, FL – The College of Staten Island Softball Team played their final two games in Florida at The Spring Games earlier today as they faced Clarion University and Tiffin University on Friday afternoon.  In their first game, the Dolphins fell behind early against Clarion and were unable to erase that deficit as they lost 5-0.  In game two, the Dolphins staggered in the middle innings as Tiffin University piled on 12 runs in a big win.  The Dolphins end their trip 2-8 and are 5-9 on the season.

GAME 1
The Dolphins threatened in their first turn at bat on the day loading the bases in the first inning against Clarion University.  However, CSI would fail to score, and the Golden Eagles would capitalize on their chance in the next half-inning.  After holding the Dolphins scoreless, Clarion plated 5 runs in the home first behind three walks, two hit batters, and three base-hits.  This is all of the offense the Golden Eagles would need and all of the offense they would get.  The CSI bullpen held Clarion scoreless the rest of the way, but the CSI offense managed only one hit in the game as the Dolphins went on to lose 5-0.

GAME 2
CSI starter Alexandra Frenza opened her game two start with a pair of scoreless innings, but Tiffin University finally broke through in the third.  Following a leadoff walk and a pop up on the infield, the Dragons recorded back-to-back hits to score the game's first run.  With two on and still one out, Tiffin made it a four-run game with a three-run shot by Baylee Mirgon.  After scoring four in the third, the Dragons would add 1 in the fourth, 2 in the fifth, and 4 more in the sixth.  This was more than enough offense as the Dolphins finished the game with just two hits in the 12-0 loss.

The Dolphins will have just one doubleheader on the schedule in the next 12 days after returning home.  That will take place on Thursday when they host Georgian Court University at the CSI Softball Complex.
