DOLPHINS TAKE SEASON SERIES FROM D'YOUVILLE WITH DOUBLEHEADER SPLIT

Buffalo, NY – The College of Staten Island Softball Team claimed their season series against D'Youville University earlier today as the Dolphins split a doubleheader with the Saints in Buffalo.  In game one, the Dolphins led 6-0, but D'Youville scored eleven of the last twelve runs in an 11-7 victory.  In game two, the Dolphins jumped ahead early and held the lead for the entire game in an 8-2 win.  With the split, the Dolphins end the day 12-24 and 4-8 in conference play.  The Saints are 9-25 on the season and 3-9 against the ECC.  With their game two win, the Dolphins finish their season series with the Saints having taken three out of four meetings.

GAME 1
The first six Dolphins that came to the plate in game one all recorded base hits as CSI went on to score six runs on eight hits in the opening inning.  Trailing 6-0, the Saints got two back in the home half of the first, but the Dolphins added a run on an RBI single by Olivia Wanser in the second.  However, this would be the last time the Dolphins would score as the Saint scored the last nine runs of the game.  Down by five in the second, a leadoff walk, a Dolphins error, and three D'Youville hits brought the Saints to within one, 7-6.  The Dolphins were able to maintain their one-run lead until the fifth when back-to-back D'Youville hits to start the inning set up a game-tying sacrifice fly.  With the score even at 7-7, the Saints took an 11-7 lead in the sixth behind four-run, four-hit inning.  The Dolphins would get a base runner in the seventh, but this was as close as they would get in their final turn at bat as the Saints took the win, 11-7.

GAME 2
Aileen Balderas opened game two with a leadoff double and was immediately sacrificed to third by Mariah Carcano.  Two batters later, an Olivia Wanser sacrifice fly put the Dolphins ahead 1-0, but CSI would go on to strand the bases loaded in the inning.  Leading 1-0, the Dolphins would score an unearned run as a result of two Saints errors in the second.  CSI would then increase their lead to four in the third on RBI hits by Bridget Motley and Amanda Stalker.  The Saints would pull to within two in the next half-inning, but this would be the only time D'Youville would score against Dolphins pitching.  CSI would go on to add one in the sixth and three in the seventh on their way to an 8-2 win.

Wanser had three hits and drove in two more runs in game one, and Anissa Acosta also drove in a pair in the loss.  In game two, Balderas, Carcano, and Stalker each had three hits.  Marena Grenier picked up the win for the Dolphins in game two and Alexandra Frenza did not allow a single hit in her three innings of work.

The Dolphins will return to action at home on Wednesday as they host Pace University for a non-conference doubleheader at 2:00 PM.
