PACE SWEEPS DOUBLEHEADER FROM DOLPHINS IN FIRST MEETING SINCE 1991

Staten Island, NY – The College of Staten Island Softball Team faced Pace University for the first time in over 30 years earlier today and were swept in a non-conference doubleheader by the visiting Setters.  In game one, the Dolphins trailed 6-0 before their first turn at bat, but neither team would score the rest of the way in a 6-0 Pace win.  In game two, the Setters scored the first six runs for the second straight game as they went on to defeat the Dolphins 6-1.  The Dolphins are now 12-26 on the season while the Setters improve to 24-10.

GAME 1
The first five batters of the game reached for the Setters, three via walk and two by single.  This brought home two runs and forced an early CSI pitching change as the Dolphins summoned Alexandra Frenza from the bullpen.  Upon coming into the game, Frenza surrendered a walk and two hits, but beyond that she was dominant during the next six innings.  Pace would threaten again with two base runners in the fourth, but Frenza was able to escape trouble and keep it 6-0.  The first CSI scoring chance came in the same inning, but like the Setters, CSI would strand two on base.  Pace would strand a pair in both the fifth and sixth against Frenza, and the Dolphins would also strand two in the sixth against the Setters bullpen.  The two sides would ultimately combine for just ten hits, and the game would go final with Pace taking the 6-0 win.

GAME 2
Game two also saw Dolphins run into first inning trouble after two walks, but Kennedie Ruth stranded two on base and held the Setters scoreless to start the game.  However, the Setters would break through in the third with two runs on two hits helped along by two CSI errors.  A single and sacrifice bunt opened the inning before a throwing allowed the lead runner to advance to third.  A single then drove in a run before another error extended the inning and allowed the second run to score.  Now trailing 2-0, the Dolphins looked to mount a two-out rally with consecutive hits in the third.  This time, it was the Dolphins stranding a pair and the deficit remained two.  A walk, a hit batter, and three Pace hits plated three runs in the fourth, and the Setters would go on to add one more in the sixth.  It wasn't until the seventh that the Dolphins would score for the first time on a sacrifice fly by Amanda Stalker, but this was all CSI would get in a 6-1 defeat.

Frenza allowed five hits and struck out eight recording all 21 outs in relief during game one.  At the plate, Amanda Stalker was the only Dolphin with a multi-hit performance in either game as she finished game two 2-2 with an RBI.

The Dolphins begin a pivotal two-day stretch of conference games Friday on the road against Queens College.  The Dolphins will face the Knights at 2:00 PM before facing Molloy the following day at noon.
