SOFTBALL SPLITS FIRST MATCHUP WITH LINCOLN UNIVERSITY IN NON-CONFERENCE PLAY

Lincoln, PA – The College of Staten Island Softball Team visited the Lions of Lincoln University for a non-conference doubleheader earlier today and earned a split in the first-ever meeting between the two teams.  In game one, the Dolphins picked up a 9-0 win behind a complete game shutout from starter Kennedie Ruth.  In game two, the Dolphins trailed 4-1 before coming from behind to tie the game in the seventh.  However, the Lions scored the winning run in the home half of the final inning to earn the walk off win.  With the split, both teams finish the day with an 11-21 record.

GAME 1
The Dolphins got all the offense they would need in the third inning of game one as Olivia Wanser and Bridget Motley both delivered run-scoring hits.  A Lions error also allowed a third run to score in the inning to put the Dolphins ahead by three.  Ahead 3-0, the Dolphins added four runs in the fourth on RBI hits by Anissa Acosta, Wanser, and Aliveah Warner.  Leading by seven entering the final inning, Wanser capped off another productive game at the plate with an RBI dobule helping the Dolphins score two more in the frame.  In the circle, Kennedie Ruth allowed just four hits and struck out eight in a complete game effort to earn her seventh win of the season.

GAME 2
Wasner picked up right where she left off in game one as she opened the scoring in the first inning of game two with an RBI double.  This was all the Dolphins would get in the first, and the Lions quickly took the lead with their first four runs of the day.  A single tied the score at one before a three-run homer by Jordin Cathey put Lincoln in front, 4-1.  The Dolphins would get one run closer in the fourth on an RBI double by Alyssa Acosta, and this would be the last time either team would score until the seventh.

Trailing 4-2 and down to their final out, Aileen Balderas came to the plate for CSI with runners on first and second.  The sophomore came through with a game-tying 2-RBI double, but the inning came to a close moments later when she was thrown out trying to score the go-ahead run on an Anissa Acosta hit.  With the score tied at 4-4, the Lions were also down to their final out when Cathey came to the plate with the winning run in scoring position.  This time, Cathey delivered the game-winning hit with a single to right as the Lions walked off with a 5-4 win.

Wanser had four hits in game one and drove in four runs across the two games.  Anissa Acosta had three hits in the early game as well, and three more Dolphins registered multiple hits in the game one victory.  In game two, Alyssa Acosta was the only Dolphin with multiple hits.  The Dolphins finished game one with 16 hits while Ruth held the Lions to just four.  In game two, the Lions collected 13 hits while the Dolphins were held to only six.

The Dolphins will play their second doubleheader in three days tomorrow as they return to conference play against Molloy University.  First pitch in game one is scheduled for 2:30 PM.
