Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

DOLPHINS ERASE EARLY DEFICIT WITH THREE UNANSWERED GOALS TO EARN FIRST WIN, 3-1

Lakewood, NJ - The College of Staten Island Men's Soccer Team earned their first win of the 2024 season earlier today as they defeated the Lions of Georgian Court University by a final score of 3-1.  The Dolphins fell behind 1-0 early, but the CSI would score each of the next three goals on their way to their first victory.  The Dolphins improve to 1-3 following today's result and the Lions drop to 0-3-1 on the year.

Gijs van Eif opened the scoring just over ten minutes into the match giving the Lions a 1-0 lead.  The Dolphins would eventually get even eighteen minutes later when Brendan Maguire scored his goal of the season off an assist from Badr Mesrar.  With the game now even at 1-1, a red card assessed to GCU's Vitor Antelo gave the Dolphins a one-man advantage in the final minutes before halftime.

The Dolphins would capitalize on the advantage afforded to them quickly as they struck for a pair of goals early in the second half.  First, Brian Kerilu scored the first goal of his Dolphins career in the 53rd minute to put CSI ahead 2-1.  Less than six minutes later, Peterson Larose also scored the first goal of his career as the Dolphins extended their lead to a pair.  Despite facing twelve shots in final 45 minutes, the Dolphins would not surrender another goal and went on to secure a 3-1 victory.

Though the Dolphins took the two-goal victory, the Lions managed to finish the match with a 16-11 advantage in shots.  Five of the sixteen GCU attempts belonged to van Eif who accounted for the lone Lions goal.  Maguire and Larose each attempted three shots, two on target, for the Dolphins.  In his season debut, Justin Karaburan made six saves and earned the win.

The Dolphins will return to action this weekend when they return home for a conference matchup with Daemen University.  That game will be the back half of an ECC doubleheader at the CSI Outdoor Track & Field Complex.  Kickoff is scheduled for 2:00 PM.
