Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

MEN'S SOCCER OUTLASTS DAEMEN FOR FIRST CONFERENCE WIN, 3-2

Staten Island, NY - The College of Staten Island Men's Soccer Team picked up their first conference win of the 2024 season earlier today as they defeated the Daemen University Wildcats, 3-2.  The Dolphins took a 2-0 first half lead behind two goals from Brendan Maguire, but the Wildcats pulled to within one with the first goal of the second half.  Just seconds after Daemen made it a one-goal game, Miguel Espnosa put the Dolphins back ahead by two.  Daemen would add another goal late, but the Dolphins held on for the 3-2 win.  The Dolphins improve to 2-3 overall and 1-1 in conference play with the victory.  Daemen falls to 3-2-1 overall and 0-1 against the ECC.

The Dolphins scored the first of their three goals in the 17th minute when Maguire found the back of the net off an assist from Peterson Larose.  Later in the half, it was a Wildcats free kick that began a sequence which led to the second CSI goal.  Trying to sneak a pass around Maguire on the free kick, the pass was intercepted by Maguire who continued forward racing toward goal.  Following a move to the inside, the senior scored for the second time in the half to make it 2-0.

Less than ten minutes into the second half, Emmanuel Perez brought Daemen to within one with the first Wildcats goal of the afternoon.  However, the one-goal deficit was short-lived as the Dolphins answered back seconds later.  Following a saved shot that deflected off the crossbar by Koray Arslan, Espinosa followed the rebound with a header into the back of the net.  This immediately put the Dolphins back ahead by two, but Daemen refused to go away.  Larry Noel brought Daemen within a single goal for a second time with eleven minutes remaining, but the Dolphins survived a late Wildcats surge to hold on for the 3-2 victory.

Thirteen yellow cards were issued in an extremely physical game which saw the two teams combine 38 fouls and 32 shots.  Justin Karaburan earned his second win for the Dolphins with a seven-save effort, and in addition to his assist, Larose led the Dolphins with five shots.

The Dolphins will break from conference play on Wednesday when they hit the road for a matchup with Dominican University of New York.  Kickoff is scheduled for 3:30 PM.
