Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

DOLPHINS CAN'T OVERCOME ONE-MAN DISADVANTAGE IN LOSS TO CHARGERS, 2-1

Orangeburg, NY - The College of Staten Island Men's Soccer Team could not overcome a second-half red card in their loss to Dominican University earlier today as the Dolphins suffered a 2-1 defeat in non-conference play.  Peterson Larose put the Dolphins ahead 1-0 in the 19th minute with his second goal of the season, a lead that CSI would hold until deep in the second half.  However, a red card issued to the Dolphins shortly after halftime opened the door for a Chargers comeback which saw Dominican score twice in the final twelve minutes.  With the 2-1 victory, the Chargers pick up their first win of the season and improve to 1-5.  The Dolphins fall to 2-4 with the loss and now trail the all-time series against Dominican two games to one.

Larose scored early and gave the Dolphins a 1-0 lead that they would hold for nearly sixty minutes.  Aside from the opening goal, the CSI attack registered twelve of the game's first thirteen shots during a commanding first-half effort.  However, the game began to shift the way of the Chargers late in the first half as they attempted the final five shots before the break.

Following halftime, William Lopez was issued his second yellow card of the match and was consequently ejected from the match.  This occurred during a stretch which saw the Chargers attempt seventeen out of eighteen shots including the five before halftime.  Despite the attacking pressure from Dominican, Dolphins goalkeeping was up to the task of protecting the CSI lead.  After the Chargers failed to put a single shot on target in the first half, Justin Karaburan made four saves without surrendering a goal through thirty minutes.  Finally, in the 77th minute, the Chargers leveled the score on a Henrique Zachello penalty kick.  Just eight minutes later, Oscar Chazalet put Dominican ahead for good, and the Chargers took the win, 2-1.

In addition to the two yellow cards issued to Lopez, nine more yellow cards were issued in the match.  The two teams combined for 40 shots with the Dolphins being led by Miguel Espinosa's five.  Zachello and Chazalet led the Chargers with four each and goalkeeper Miguel Hernandez made eight saves.

The Dolphins will be back on the road this weekend when they return to conference play against Roberts Wesleyan University.  Kickoff is scheduled for 3:30 PM.
