WOMEN'S BASKETBALL LENDS AN ASSIST TO THE COMMUNITY THROUGH CONTINUED PARTNERSHIP WITH PROJECT HOSPITALITY

1/26/2025 10:00:00 AM

The College of Staten Island Women's Basketball Team took the time out from a busy conference schedule to lend an assist to the community earlier this week.  Continuing their longstanding partnership with Project Hospitality, the team took part in a community service event put together to help package and distribute meals in the local community.  The Dolphins have worked with the organization for each of the past several seasons, and Head Coach Nicole Sarcone was very appreciative of the opportunity to return once again this year.  "Mike and the staff at Project Hospitality have welcomed us with open arms for the past few years," Sarcone said.  "We believe in their mission and are appreciative of the opportunity to give back to Staten Island community members in need."

Also representing the team were players and assistant coaches, all of whom shared Sarcone's appreciation for the opportunity to give back.  Senior Jenalyse Alarcon, who has been a part of the team's work with Project Hospitality in the past, valued the opportunity to continue the partnership this year.  "It was a great experience to be able to help the community and meet so many new people," Alarcon said.  The CSI forward also viewed the experience as a humbling one that serves as an important reminder that the Women's Basketball program offers so much more than what they can achieve on the court.  "Helping those in need is a great reminder that we should take every opportunity to support the community in any way we can," she said.

The Dolphins were recognized by the East Coast Conference following the 2022-2023 season for their work with Project Hospitality as they were named the recipients of the ECC Community Engagement Award of Excellence.  The team has also been involved in several other initiatives to give back including their hosting of youth teams at home games and their work with the Go4TheGoal Foundation.  The team was also named the winner of the CSI Athletics Distinguished Service Award for their efforts in the community throughout the 2023-2024 season.
