STATEN ISLAND, NY -Â The College of Staten Island men's soccer team hosted its final home match of the regular season on Wednesday afternoon, taking on the University of the District of Columbia (UDC) at Dolphin Soccer Park.
The opening half saw a defensive battle, ending scoreless despite several chances from both sides. The Dolphins recorded 11 shots, including four on target, while the Firebirds managed nine. CSI goalkeeper Carlos Romero Astacio and his UDC counterpart each collected four saves in the first 45 minutes.
Early in the second half, Tai Torres nearly broke the deadlock for the Dolphins, rising for a header off a free kick that was tipped away by the UDC keeper's fingertips. Moments later, Romero Astacio answered with an outstanding save off a Firebirds corner, but UDC capitalized on a subsequent corner to score the lone goal of the match and hand CSI a 1–0 defeat.
Peterson Larose led the Dolphins' attack with four shots, while Torres, Koray Arslan, and Matthew Beaton added two apiece. Romero Astacio finished with six saves in goal.
The Dolphins (1–7–4, 0–5–1 ECC) will close out their regular season on the road, beginning with a matchup at Mercy University on Saturday, October 25, at 11:00 a.m.
