DOLPHINS VISIT TO DOBBS FERRY ENDS IN SCORELESS TIE WITH MAVERICKS

DOBBS FERRY, NY - The College of Staten Island men's soccer team hit the road for the first of two conference matches to end the regular season on Saturday.  Traveling to Dobbs Ferry, the team faced the Mercy University Mavericks in a rare 11:00 a.m. match.

The Mavericks applied immediate pressure on the attack to open the game as they registered the first three shots of the match in just 15 minutes.  For the remainder of the half, chances were tough to come by for both sides, but it was CSI that would attempt each of the next three shots.  None of those shots were on target, and only one of the three first-half Mercy shot attempts were on goal.

Just as they started the game, Mercy applied early pressure to begin the second half.  CSI goalkeeper Carlos Romero Astacio was quickly forced to make his second save of the match, and his team quickly responded with their first shot on goal, an attempt saved by Mavericks goalkeeper Mateo Sanchez.  As the game approached the final twenty minutes, the two teams combined for six shots in a 12-minute span.  Only one of these was on target, an attempt by William Lopez that was stopped by Sanchez.  Following the last shot of the match for Mercy, Lopez would get one last chance to score in the final minute.  His shot would ultimately travel wide, and 90 minutes of evenly matched play ended in a scoreless draw.

Lopez and Tai Torres each tallied two shots for the Dolphins, and the two CSI shots on goal belonged to Lopez and Kareem Madito.  Romero Astacio made a pair of saves and earned the shutout in goal, his first of the season.

The Dolphins (1–7–5, 0–5–2 ECC) will close out the regular season on the road in Amherst as they take on Daemen University on Saturday, November 1 at 2:30 a.m.
