STATEN ISLAND, NY – The College of Staten Island women's basketball team returns to the Tank on Wednesday evening following a two-game road stretch to host non-conference opponent American International College (AIC) for the first time in program history.
The Dolphins finished last week with a 1–1 record, falling to Adelphi before rallying in the fourth quarter for a comeback win over the University of the District of Columbia to earn their first East Coast Conference (ECC) victory of the season. AIC enters Wednesday's matchup after a week-long break, with its most recent contest coming on Dec. 6, an 88–67 win over Pace University.
The Yellowjackets hold the stronger overall record at 6–2 and have faced several of the same opponents as the Dolphins, including St. Thomas Aquinas, Southern Connecticut State, and Adelphi. In those matchups, CSI is 0–3, while AIC posted a 2–1 mark.
Kyra Rose has emerged as the Dolphins' offensive leader, pacing the team with 12.7 points per game while averaging 8.4 rebounds. She recorded double-doubles in both games last week, highlighted by a 17 point, 14 rebound performance against Adelphi. Shonyae Edmonds follows closely with 12.6 points and 7.2 rebounds per game while Racky Kane ranks third on the team at 11.3 points per game and leads CSI with 10 blocks. AIC features three players averaging double figures, led by a top scorer posting 14.6 points per game. Defensively, the Yellowjackets are holding opponents to 58.6 points per contest, while the Dolphins are averaging 52.7 points per game through the first half of the season.
