GAMEDAY: BASEBALL CONTINUES FOUR-GAME SET WITH SHIPPENSBURG FOLLOWING FRIDAY DOUBLEHEADER SPLIT

3/14/2025 10:00:00 AM

Shippensburg, PA - The College of Staten Island Baseball Team will be back on the road this afternoon as they head to Shippensburg, Pennsylvania for their first-ever meeting with the Raiders of Shippensburg University at 1:00 PM.  The Dolphins and Raiders will play two games today in addition to a second doubleheader tomorrow also beginning at 1:00 PM.  CSI comes in with a record of 3-13 following a lopsided loss against Dominican University at home earlier this week.  The Raiders enter the weekend with a record of 10-4 on the season and have won each of their last three games.

First Pitch - 1:00 PM Friday & 12:00 PM Saturday
Location - Shippensburg, PA
All-Time Series - First Meeting

Friday - Game 1 (CSI - 1, SHIP - 0)
A pitcher's duel quickly developed in game one as CSI starter Ryan Kehoe and Shippensburg starter Jaxon Dalena traded zeroes for each of the first six innings.  Along the way, each team had only one opportunity with more than a single runner on base.  In the first, the Raiders stranded two on base, and the Dolphins would later leave a pair stranded in the fourth.  The scoreless tie stood until the top of the seventh when the Dolphins finally broke through with the game's first run.  A leadoff walk of TJ Laino set up a Jaden Waterman sacrifice bunt.  Moments later, Jack Kehoe singled home the go-ahead run to deliver the deciding blow.  However, the final three outs did not come easily in the bottom half of the inning.  A CSI error put the leadoff man on and a hit batter put a second runner on base.  With two on and one out, Kehoe induced a game-ending double play grounder as the Dolphins won, 1-0.

Kehoe went the full 7.0 innings and earned his second victory of the season via shutout.  The senior allowed just two hits and struck out five in the win.  At the plate, Kehoe's go-ahead RBI single was one of his two hits in the game.  The other three Dolphin hits belonged to Laino, AJ Vigliotti, and Michael Flashner.

Friday Game 2  (CSI - 2, SHIP - 13)

After a game one pitcher's duel, the two teams combined to score five runs in the first inning of game two.  First, the Dolphins opened the scoring with a 2-RBI single by Waterman to go in front, 2-0.  However, this would be the final time CSI would score, and the Raiders quickly took their first lead of the day with three first-inning runs.  Leading by one after the first inning, the Raiders added three runs in the third, one in the fourth and five in the fifth.  One more run in the sixth made it 13-2 Shippensburg which would be the eventual final score.

The Dolphins were held to just four hits in the game including the RBI hit by Waterman, two hits from Laino, and one more from Vigliotti.  Aidan Kielty go the start and allowed the first six runs, five earned, in 3.0 innings of work.  The CSI bullpen allowed the final seven runs, but Christopher Martinez worked his second consecutive outing without allowed an earned run to score in the sixth.
