SOFTBALL SWEPT BY MOLLOY IN SECOND CONFERENCE OUTING

Rockville Centre, NY – The College of Staten Island Softball Team suffered a pair of tough losses on the road today as they were swept by Molloy University in conference play, 16-8 and 2-1.  After CSI went in front 8-1 in the opener, the Lions scored the last fifteen runs of the game to win by eight.  In game two, the Dolphins mounted a pair of late-game threats, but Molloy was able to hold on for the 2-1 victory.  CSI ends the day 10-12 overall and 0-4 against the ECC.  Molloy is now 8-14 on the year and 3-1 in conference play.

Game 1
The Dolphins jumped ahead by three in the first inning of game one following a three-run homer by Olivia Wanser.  Molloy got one back in the home half of the inning, but the Dolphins would score seven times in the second.   The inning began with a Mariah Carcano single and a walk of Paige Bell.  Both Dolphins were then doubled home by Anissa Acosta who was left standing on third with two out in the inning.  Bridget Motley then came to the plate and singled home Acosta.  One batter later, Aliveah Warner doubled home both Motley and Wanser, who reached on a walk.

With CSI leading 8-1, Molloy got one run back in the third and another in the fourth.  The Lions then pulled to within two with a three-run fifth inning before breaking the game wide open with a massive sixth inning.  A single and three Dolphin errors made it a one-run game before a 2-RBI single by Stevie Dabaddie gave Molloy the lead for good.  The Lions would go on to score ten times in the inning to earn a walk-off win via the run rule, 16-8.

Acosta finished with three hits to lead the Dolphins and Wanser's three RBI also led the team.  Wanser, Motley, Warner and Carcano all finished the game with multiple hits.  Of the sixteen runs Molloy scored in the game, only five were earned, and the Dolphins committed five errors.

Game 2
Molloy took the lead in the second inning of game two, 1-0, but the Dolphins answered right back with a game-tying RBI single by Acosta.  The 1-1 score would stand until the third when Molloy went in front by one on a two-out RBI single by Natalie Moussa.  Two Lions reached in a scoreless fifth, and the Dolphins finally mounted their first significant threat in the sixth.  Warner singled to right, but pinch runner Deanna Dubois was erased on a fielder's choice.  With two outs, Madilyn Paul singled and Alyssa Acosta walked to load the bases.  This brought up Anissa Acosta who made a grand slam bid on a 3-2 pitch.  However, the deep fly ball came just short of leaving the ballpark and was caught on the warning track.  Molloy then stranded two once again in the sixth, and the Dolphins moved the tying run into scoring position in the seventh.  With nobody out, Mae Savage robbed the Dolphins of base hits on back-to-back plays.  The game then came to an end with a ground ball back to the circle as the Dolphins fell, 2-1.

Anissa Acosta, Alyssa Acosta, and Warner each had multiple hits in the game, and Kennedie Ruth suffered the loss in a complete game effort.  The CSI starter allowed two runs, one earned, on seven hits in 6.0 innings.

The Dolphins will visit Queens College on Saturday as they continue conference play on the road with another ECC doubleheader.
