SEVENTH-INNING RALLY EARNS SOFTBALL SPLIT OF CRITICAL DOUBLEHEADER AGAINST D'YOUVILLE

Buffalo, NY – The College of Staten Island Softball Team earned a critical doubleheader split against D'Youville University earlier today as they came from behind in the seventh inning to take the win over the Saints in game two, 13-11.  In game one, just one run was scored between the two teams as the Saints knocked off the Dolphins, 1-0.  CSI ends the day 15-17 on the year and 3-9 in conference play.  The Saints are now 18-10 on the season and 8-6 against the ECC.

GAME 1
The Dolphins threatened in the first inning of game one as they loaded the bases with two outs in the inning. However, Sarah Parzych escaped the jam and did not allow a run the rest of the way.  On the other side, CSI starter Kennedie Ruth allowed just one run in the game, and that came in the home second inning.  After a leadoff single started the inning, a two-out walk put runners on first and second.  From here, a two-out single plated the only run of the game to give D'Youville a 1-0 lead.  Two Saints would be stranded in the fifth, and the Dolphins stranded a pair in the sixth, but the game reached the seventh with the Saints ahead by one.  Down to their final out, CSI would put the tying run on base via a hit-by-pitch, but the game-tying run would not advance any further in a 1-0 defeat.

Five different Dolphins accounted for the five CSI hits, and Ruth limited the Saints to just three hits in a six-inning complete game effort.  Parzych also went the distance for D'Youville and struck out nine in her seven innings of work.

GAME 2
The Dolphins sent eleven to the plate in the first inning of game two as a pair of Saints errors, a walk, a hit batter, and three hits powered a six-run inning for CSI.  This lead was cut to four in the bottom half of the inning, but D'Youville would do major damage with a big inning in the third.  Traling 6-2, nine straight Saints reached in the third and seven D'Youville runs came in to score.  The 9-6 score would stand until the fifth when the Dolphins tied the score with a three-run inning.  Bridget Motley singled home a run, and one more would score following a Saints error on the play.  Now within one, Anissa Acosta singled home another run with two outs to even the score, 9-9.

It didn't take D'Youville long to regain the lead as they went back in front by one with a sacrifice fly in the home fifth.  The 10-9 Saints lead would stand until the seventh, but the Dolphins put todether a four-run rally to take the lead for good.  Aliveah Warner got things started with a single before Motley doubled home the tying run.  Alyssa Acosta and Anissa Acosta then walked to load the bases, and Aileen Balderas singled home a pair to give the Dolphins two huge insurance runs and a 13-10 lead.  With two outs and one runner on in the home seventh, three straight Saints would reach base to make it 13-11.  However, the D'Youville rally would end here as Alexandra Frenza secured the CSI win with a game-ending strikeout.

Warner led the Dolphins with three hits in game two, and Motley, Anissa Acosta, and Balderas all finished with two.  The two teams combined for 23 hits, and each side used two pitchers.  Frenza would ultimately earn the win for the Dolphins with 4.2 innings in relief of Marena Grenier.

The Dolphins will play four games that will be critically important to their playoff chances this weekend at the CSI Softball Complex.  On Friday, they host Queens College for a doubleheader, and on Saturday they will host Senior Day against Molloy University.
