GAMEDAY: BASEBALL LOOKS TO EXTEND CONFERENCE WINNING STREAK IN SERIES-OPENING DOUBLEHEADER AGAINST MERCY

4/3/2025 8:00:00 AM

Staten Island, NY - The College of Staten Island Baseball Team will look to extend their conference winning streak this afternoon as they open their series against Mercy University with a doubleheader at the CSI Baseball Complex.  Weather forcing the cancelation of games Friday and Sunday will see the Dolphins and Mavericks play two nine-inning games today.  This will be followed by a nine-inning and seven-inning doubleheader in Dobbs Ferry Tomorrow.  The Dolphins come in to their series with Mercy 10-20 on the season and 4-4 in conference play.  Last weekend, the Dolphins closed their series against Queens College with three straight wins.  The Mavericks enter the CSI Baseball Complex with a 17-14 record and an identical 4-4 conference record.  Mercy won the final two games in their four-game series with Molloy last week and will also be looking to extend their winning streak in conference play.  The Mavericks and Dolphins first met in 1979, and Mercy leads the all-time series 20-10.  Since moving to Division II, the Dolphins are just 4-14 against Mercy.

On Monday, it was announced that two Dolphins had received weekly accolades from the ECC.  First Chris Polemeni followed up a historic effort on Saturday against the Knights with an ECC Player of the Week award.  Hitting nearly .500 for the week, Polemeni tied the CSI single-game home runs record with three in game one against Queens on Saturday.  Joining Polemeni in the conference weekly report was freshman JJ Hunter who was named ECC Rookie of the Week.  Hunter drove in 11 runs for the Dolphins to help the CSI win four of their five games last week.
