RECORD-SETTING OFFENSIVE EFFORT POWERS SOFTBALL TO DOUBLEHEADER SWEEP OF LINCOLN

Staten Island, NY – The College of Staten Island Softball Team took the field at the CSI Softball Complex for the first time this season earlier today and earned a sweep of Lincoln University behind a record-setting offensive effort.  In game one, the Dolphins walked off via the run rule in the fifth inning of a 9-1 victory.  In game two, the Dolphins scored more runs than they have in any game as a Division II program as they defeated the Lions, 18-0.  The victories improve the Dolphins to 13-13 ahead of a pivotal series of conference games during the next four days.  Lincoln ends the day 13-21.

Game 1
The Lions loaded the bases in the first inning of game one, but CSI starter Alexis Miramontes escaped trouble with a double play and strikeout.  The Dolphins then got on the board for the first time with a two-out RBI double by Amanda Stalker to make it 1-0.  The Dolphins then broke the game open with five runs in the second.  Four hits, three walks, and a costly Lions error propelled the CSI rally that put the Dolphins in front 6-0.  Lincoln would strand the bases loaded a second time in the third, and the Lions would later strand two more on base in the fourth.  Olivia Wanser then chased home the first of two CSI fourth-inning runs with an RBI single, and the second of two walks in the inning forced home another.  Leading 8-0, the Dolphins surrendered the first Lincoln run of the game in the top of the fifth.  However, a sacrifice fly to deep right-center by Stalker scored Mariah Carcano from second base to win it for the Dolphins in the bottom half via the run rule, 9-1.

Carcano had two hits for the Dolphins in the win, and both Stalker and Wanser drove in a pair.  Miramontes pitched 3.0 scoreless innings to earn the win, and Alexandra Frenza allowed one run in 2.0 innings of work in relief.  Despite the eight-run margin of victory, CSI held just a 9-8 advantage in hits.

Game 2
The Dolphins opened the scoring in game two with a pair of first-inning RBI doubles by Stalker and Wanser.  In the second, Anissa Acosta and Carcano each singled home another run to put the Dolphins ahead 4-0.  Following three consecutive 1-2-3 innings for starter Kennedie Ruth, the Dolphins erupted for the biggest inning in their Division II history in the third.  The inning began with two walks and an RBI double by Taryn Judson, the first of 11 CSI hits in the frame.  The Dolphins would go on to score 14 times in the third, surpassing their single-game runs record as a Division II program in just one inning.  They would bat around twice, and Wanser reached base three times in the inning.  The Dolphins would add two more hits in the fourth, including the first hit in the collegiate career of Frenza, and would go on to win 18-0.

Salker and Judson each had three hits, and six more Dolphins registered multiple hits in the 20-hit outburst.  CSI pitching limited Lincoln to just a single hit in the fifth inning, and Ruth earned her fourth win of the season in the victory.  Brooklyn Mellor and Marena Grenier also added a scoreless inning of relief in the fourth shutout of the season for the CSI pitching staff.  The previous Division II program record for runs in a game was set during the 2024 season when the Dolphins scored 12 times against American International College.  CSI surpassed that total in the third inning alone, and the Dolphins tallied a DII program record 20 hits.

The Dolphins will resume conference play tomorrow with a critical doubleheader against St. Thomas Aquinas College at 2:00 PM.
