STATEN ISLAND, NY -The College of Staten Island men's soccer team hosted its 2025 home opener on Saturday afternoon at Dolphin Soccer Park against Georgian Court University. After a scoreless first half, the Lions struck first to open the scoring, but that would stand as their only goal of the match as the Dolphins made their comeback for the 2-1 victory.
The opening half was tightly contested, with the Lions holding a slight edge in shots while both sides earned three corner kicks. In the second half, however, the Dolphins asserted control offensively, recording five shots, two of which found the back of the net, to improve to 1-2 on the season. Both goals were guided by Koray Arslan, who set up scoring opportunities for Wolfgang Alvarado and William Lopez.
Alvarado netted the equalizer in the 72nd minute to level the match at 1-1. Then, with just 20 seconds remaining, Arslan capitalized on a Lions' misplayed pass, carried the ball to the left side of the box, and delivered a precise cross to Lopez, who lofted the game-winning strike over the goalkeeper to seal the 2-1 victory.
CSI Men's Soccer will return to action on Wednesday, Sept. 17, in Springfield, MA, to play American International College at 4:00 PM.
