DOLPHINS EARN TIE WITH AMERICAN INTERNATIONAL AFTER SECOND HALF GOAL

SPRINGFIELD, MA  -The College of Staten Island men's soccer team traveled to Springfield, MA, on Wednesday afternoon for a non-conference contest against American International College. The Yellowjackets struck early to take a 1-0 lead, but the Dolphins responded with a late second-half equalizer to secure a 1-1 draw. With the result, CSI moves to 1-2-1 on the season.

In an evenly matched first half, both teams tallied five shots, but AIC capitalized to take a 1-0 lead into halftime. The Dolphins gained the edge in the second half, out-shooting the Yellowjackets 6-4. In the 70th minute, CSI pushed forward and found Wolfgang Alvarado, who worked his way into the center of the box and delivered the equalizing goal.

Immediately following the equalizer, Badr Mesrar put another shot on target, but the AIC goalkeeper came up with the save to keep the score level at 1-1. In his second appearance of the season, Luca Schelling recorded four saves to help secure the draw.

The men's soccer squad will open up conference play on Saturday, Sept. 20, at Dolphins Soccer Park versus Roberts Wesleyan College at 2:30 PM.
