AMHERST, NY – The College of Staten Island men's basketball team is set for an East Coast Conference (ECC) matchup against No. 2 Daemen University on Sunday afternoon. The Wildcats enter the contest riding an impressive 48-game regular-season winning streak and a 27-game ECC winning streak. Their last regular-season and conference loss came during the 2023–24 season, when the Dolphins earned a 71–62 victory in Amherst.

Breaking the Losing Skid

The Dolphins will look to snap a four-game losing streak against the Wildcats on Sunday. CSI's only two wins in the series came during the 2022–23 regular season, but Daemen ended the Dolphins' postseason run that year, marking the start of the current skid. Daemen holds an 8–2 advantage in the all-time series.

Goldstein Chasing a Career Milestone

Junior guard Goldstein is tied for the conference lead in scoring, averaging 20.7 points per game, his best scoring season to date. With 331 points through 16 games, Goldstein sits just 20 points shy of joining the CSI men's basketball 1,000-point club.

Dolphins' Top Conference Performers

Alongside Goldstein atop the ECC scoring leaderboard, JJ Chestnut leads the conference in assists at 5.2 per game through 16 contests. Asa Kone anchors the Dolphins on the glass, averaging 8.4 rebounds per game. After hauling in 13 rebounds last night, Kone moved from fourth to third in the ECC rebounding rankings.

Looking to Bounce Back

The Dolphins and Wildcats met three times during the 2024–25 season, with Daemen completing the sweep from the regular season through the postseason. In the ECC semifinal on March 8, 2025, CSI stayed within striking distance in the first half, trailing by just six at the break. However, the Wildcats clamped down defensively in the second half, limiting the Dolphins to 27 points while scoring 54 themselves in a 90–57 victory. Goldstein led CSI with 20 points in the semifinal loss.

CSI leads the ECC in team scoring, averaging 87.1 points per game. While Daemen ranks second in scoring, the Wildcats lead the conference in scoring defense, allowing just 64.2 points per game. The Dolphins rank fourth in that category, giving up 80.9 points per contest.
