STATEN ISLAND, NY – The College of Staten Island men's basketball team returns to the Tank on Wednesday evening for a pivotal East Coast Conference (ECC) matchup against St. Thomas Aquinas College (STAC). The Dolphins look to defend their undefeated home record while seeking redemption after falling to the Spartans earlier this season in a high-scoring 108–105 contest.
Dec. 10, 2025 Regular-Season Recap
The teams first met in Sparkill, NY, with the original Dec. 6 contest postponed due to unplayable court conditions and resumed on Dec.10 with STAC holding an early 5–0 lead. Once play resumed, CSI trailed 62–51 at halftime but mounted an impressive second-half rally. The Dolphins outscored the Spartans 54–46 after the break and made a strong push late in the game and with under 10 minutes remaining, a three-pointer from Aaron Goldstein cut a double-digit deficit to just four, 94–90.
CSI was the first team to reach the 100-point mark, briefly claiming its first lead of the night. STAC, however, responded down the stretch and held on for the 108–105 victory.
Goldstein Nears 1,000 Career Points
Following last weekend's two-game stretch, junior Goldstein sits just four points shy of the 1,000-career point milestone. Goldstein ranks second in the ECC in scoring at 20.4 points per game and is third on the team in assists at 4.5 per contest, just behind JJ Chestnut (5.1). He leads CSI with 46 made three-pointers through 17 games and is shooting 37% (46-126) from beyond the arc.
Spartans Lead the All-Time Series
Wednesday's matchup marks the 12th all-time meeting between the two programs, with STAC holding a 10–1 advantage in the series. CSI's lone win came in the first official meeting in 1979, an 87–82 victory. The Dolphins have since dropped 10 straight to the Spartans and will look to snap the streak with the advantage of home court.
Scoring Comparison
CSI remains atop the ECC standings, averaging a conference-best 86.1 points per game through 17 contests. STAC ranks sixth among the nine conference teams, averaging 76.9 points per game. Defensively, the teams are closely matched, with the Dolphins ranked fourth in the conference, allowing 81.4 points per game, while the Spartans sit fifth at 82.4.
