STATEN ISLAND, NY – The College of Staten Island men's and women's swimming and diving teams returned to the Tank on Monday afternoon for the first time since December 6, hosting Baruch College in their first meet of the new year.
The Dolphins split the meet with the Bearcats, as the women earned a decisive 164.00–96.00 victory, while the men narrowly fell, 148.50–131.50. CSI saw two program records fall on the 3-meter diving boards. Jacqueline DeFranco set a new women's 3M (11-dive) record with a combined score of 399.25, while Yubal Parra broke the men's mark with a score of 537.25.
Both teams opened the meet strong with victories in the 200 Medley Relay. The women's team of Maja Tomaszewska, Polly Struck, Aurelia Barbagallo, and Maria Janecka touched first with a time of 1:57.51. The men followed suit, as Vlad Siniagovskii, William Kwan, Julian Lopez, and Andi Bajollari won in 1:40.50.
The women delivered a dominant performance across the meet, collecting first-place finishes in the 1000 free, 200 free, 100 back, 50 free, 200 back, 200 breast, 500 free, 100 butterfly, 400 IM, and the 200 free relay. In the 1000 free, the Dolphins swept the top two spots with Michalina Bukowska winning in 12:10.57 and Katarina Tsirlin finishing second at 13:08.63. Janecka recorded three individual victories, capturing the 200 free (2:02.50), 50 free (25.43), and 100 butterfly (1:00.80). Struck also posted three wins, taking the 100 breast (1:13.86), 200 breast (2:39.88), and 400 IM (5:01.23). Tomaszewska claimed both backstroke events, winning the 100 back in 1:04.41 and the 200 back in 2:19.88. Bukowska and Tsirlin again went one-two in the 500 free, with Bukowska finishing first in 5:53.99 and Tsirlin close behind at 6:28.37.
On the men's side, Will Kwan continued the Dolphins' momentum after the opening relay win, capturing the 1000 free in 10:47.49. Kwan later added first-place finishes in the 200 breast (2:16.06) and the 100 butterfly (55.10). Siniagovskii earned victories in both backstroke events, winning the 100 back in 54.06 and the 200 back in 2:02.22, while also placing second in the 50 free (22.67). Bajollari finished second in the 100 back at 55.58, giving CSI the top two spots in the event. Lopez secured another individual win for the Dolphins in the 500 free with a time of 5:18.39, followed by Adria Garcia Fuentes in second at 5:26.01. Lopez capped his strong performance by taking first in the 400 IM at 4:29.50.
The College of Staten Island men's and women's swimming and diving teams will return to the Tank for their final home meet of the season on Wednesday, hosting Brooklyn College for their Senior Day celebrations at 5:00 PM.
