GAME DAY: MEN'S BASKETBALL AIMS TO REMAIN UNDEFEATED AT HOME VERSUS QUEENS

1/28/2026 10:00:00 AM

STATEN ISLAND, NY – The College of Staten Island men's basketball team returns to The Tank on Wednesday evening looking to defend its perfect home-court record against Queens College. The Dolphins are a flawless 10–0 at home and enter the matchup riding a three-game winning streak. Meanwhile, the Knights split their most recent week of ECC action, falling to St. Thomas Aquinas before defeating Mercy.

All-Time Series Dates Back to the 1970s

Although CSI joined the East Coast Conference just over five years ago, the rivalry between the two programs dates back to the 1977–78 season, when they first met in Flushing, NY. After dropping consecutive matchups early on, the Dolphins rebounded in 1979 with a 92–78 victory that sparked a 10-game winning streak against the Knights.

Queens eventually snapped that streak in 2021 during the teams' first Division II meeting, handing CSI a 79–65 loss. Thanks in large part to their early success in the series, the Dolphins hold a 13–6 all-time advantage. However, during the 2024–25 season, CSI dropped both meetings to Queens by scores of 65–61 and 77–75.

Dolphins' Sharp Shooting Led by Tynes and Goldstein

CSI played just one ECC contest last week, traveling to Rochester, NY, where the Dolphins earned a 93–73 win over Roberts Wesleyan College. The victory improved CSI to 6–2 in conference play and 15–5 overall.

Eric Tynes and Aaron Goldstein powered the offense, each knocking down five three-pointers as part of the team's 12 made shots from beyond the arc. Tynes led the Dolphins with 19 points, shooting 54% (7–13) from the field and 45% (5–11) from three-point range. Goldstein followed closely with 18 points, 15 of which came from downtown, as he shot 50% (5–10) from deep.

Both players rank in the top five in the ECC in three-point field goal percentage, with Tynes third at .397 (50–126) and Goldstein fourth at .394 (61–155). Goldstein's 61 made three-pointers lead both the team and the conference, while Tynes ranks second on the team and third in the ECC.

Record Comparison

As the 2025–26 regular season nears its final contest, CSI sits third in the ECC standings, just one conference game behind St. Thomas Aquinas. Queens enters the matchup in the middle of the pack with a 2–6 ECC record and a 6–13 mark overall.

Individual Scoring Comparison

CSI's success this season has been driven by balanced scoring and strong defensive play. The Dolphins feature five players averaging double figures, led by Goldstein at 21.5 points per game. He is followed by Asa Kone (12.9), Tynes (12.0), JJ Chestnut (10.9), and Mitchell Wiggan (10.2). Kone also leads both the team and the conference in field goal percentage, shooting .612 (93–152), while averaging 7.7 rebounds per game.

Queens relies on three double-digit scorers, led by an 18.5 ppg scorer, followed by averages of 11.0 and 10.8 points. The Knights' top two scorers also sit among the ECC leaders in rebounds per game, averaging 9.5 and 8.7, respectively.
