STATEN ISLAND, NY – The College of Staten Island women's soccer team recorded its first-ever win over Daemen University (NY) on Saturday, as the Dolphins shut out the Wildcats, 1-0. Following the victory, Riley Hammond and Oksana Zahirna were each recognized with East Coast Conference (ECC) weekly honors.
Hammond was named the ECC Offensive Player of the Week after scoring the goal that propelled the Dolphins to victory. The junior recorded her first goal of the 2026 season in the first half against the Wildcats after the Dolphins regained possession in the Wildcat zone. With the advantage, the Dolphins were able to fend off Daemen's attempts to find the equalizer, with Zahirna playing a major role in preserving the shutout.
The junior goalkeeper finished the afternoon with seven saves while facing 14 shots. Twelve of Daemen's attempts came in the second half, and Zahirna was there to stop each attempt that found its way on target, securing the shutout victory and earning ECC Goalkeeper of the Week honors.
The College of Staten Island women's soccer team will return to action on Wednesday when the Dolphins hit the road to face Molloy University at 4:00 PM in Rockville Centre.
