STATEN ISLAND, NY – The College of Staten Island indoor track and field team is set to compete Sunday afternoon at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex in Staten Island, N.Y., for the East Coast Conference Indoor Championship. The meet is scheduled to begin at 4:00 PM.

The Dolphins will face conference competition from Daemen University, D'Youville University, Felician University, Georgian Court University, Holy Family University, Molloy University, Queens College, Roberts Wesleyan University, St. Thomas Aquinas College, and the University of the District of Columbia.

Dolphin Top Performers Entering the ECC Championship

With the regular season concluding two weeks ago, several Dolphins rank among the top five in their respective events heading into championship competition. In the men's 200-meter dash, Sam Whelan ranks third in the conference with a time of 21.96, followed by Jeremiah Downer in fifth at 22.33. The 400-meter dash is led by KJ Ede, who holds the top time in the conference at 49.63, while Steven Elcock ranks third at 50.47.

The men's 4x400-meter relay team of Elcock, Karran Riley, Akeem Pollard, and Ede has held the conference's top time since Dec. 12 at the Seahawk Shootout, posting a 3:21.95.

On the women's side, Adonijah Washington has been a standout performer. She currently ranks first in the conference—and the East Region—in the triple jump with a mark of 11.65 meters, achieved at the John Thomas Terrier Classic in Boston, Mass. Washington also ranks eighth in the conference in the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:00.01.

2024–25 ECC Indoor Championship Recap

Last season marked the Dolphins' fourth appearance at the ECC Indoor Championship, and both teams recorded their highest finishes in program history. The men placed fourth out of nine teams with 64 points, while the women finished sixth out of 11 teams with 27 points. Among the returning top performers, Elcock and Riley finished first and second, respectively, in the 400-meter dash and Ibrahima Diallo captured the 500-meter title, though that event is not included in this year's championship schedule. The men's 4x400-meter relay team also earned gold, winning by three-tenths of a second.

In addition to medal finishes, Washington set program records in both the long jump and the 60-meter hurdles, marks that still stand today. Whelan also set the men's long jump program record.
