LAFAYETTE HILL, PA – The College of Staten Island baseball team returns to action this Saturday afternoon following its Spring Training trip in Myrtle Beach. The Dolphins will face Chestnut Hill College in a single game in Lafayette Hill, PA.

March 1, 2025 Matchup Summary – Dolphins Split with Griffins

In most recent meetings between the programs, the Dolphins and Griffins have split their doubleheaders, and that trend continued in 2025. CSI took game one, 5–3, before Chestnut Hill captured a high-scoring game two, 13–10.

In the opener, the game remained tied at three until the top of the seventh inning when a two-run home run lifted the Dolphins to the 5–3 victory. In game two, the Griffins responded quickly, scoring four runs in the bottom of the first inning to take early control.

The Dolphins answered with two runs in the top of the third, but the Griffins countered with four more in the bottom half of the inning to extend their lead to 8–2. By the end of the fifth inning, Chestnut Hill had built a 12–2 advantage. CSI mounted a late rally over the final two frames, scoring eight runs—including five in the sixth inning—but ultimately fell short, 13–10.

Chestnut Hill holds a 5–3 advantage in the all-time series, dating back to the teams' first meeting on March 20, 2022. Since then, the programs have frequently split their matchups, though the Dolphins were swept during the 2024 season before bouncing back with their 5–3 win in Philadelphia in 2025.

Opening Weekend Overview

Both teams opened their seasons at the Cal Ripken Experience in South Carolina, with each squad finishing the weekend at 1–2. The Dolphins dropped contests to Southern Connecticut State University and Southern New Hampshire University (10 innings), while the Griffins fell to D'Youville University and St. Thomas Aquinas College.On the mound, Aidan Kielty earned his first win of the season in the Dolphins' opener after pitching 5.0 innings and striking out five. Jack Kehoe later secured the save, entering with the bases loaded and no outs while protecting the tying run on deck.

Offensively, Michael Flasher led the team with a strong weekend at the plate, going 5-for-12 (.417) with four RBI. Freshman Jason Romance recorded his first collegiate home run—also the Dolphins' first of the season—and matched Flasher with four RBI. Rookie Ryan Ortega finished 3-for-8 (.375) with two runs scored, while Nicholas Rodriguez led the team with five runs after reaching base six times via walks.
