STATEN ISLAND, NY - The College of Staten Island men's basketball team continues East Coast Conference play at home Sunday afternoon, hosting No. 4 Daemen University (N.Y.) in the second of five February home games.
Jan. 11, 2026 Regular-Season Meeting
In the first meeting of the 2025–26 campaign, the Dolphins traveled to Amherst, N.Y., where they trailed the Wildcats by 18 points at halftime. CSI played Daemen even in the second half, 40–40, but ultimately fell 88–70, marking the Dolphins' first loss in the series this season.
Aaron Goldstein led CSI with 16 points, finishing just four points shy of his 1,000th career point, while also adding five assists and two steals. Andrew Benedict impressed in his first appearance against Daemen, scoring 13 points and shooting 50 percent (2-of-4) from three-point range. Asa Kone followed with 12 points, and Eric Tynes added 10. CSI shot 41 percent (25-61) from the field, while Daemen converted 54 percent (39-of-54) in the victory.
Dolphins' Last ECC Win Over Daemen
Daemen has gained national attention for its extended regular-season winning streak of more than 50 games. The Wildcats' most recent regular-season loss prior to their Jan. 21 setback against No. 10 Gannon University came during the 2023–24 season, when the Dolphins erupted for 45 second-half points in a 71–62 victory over Daemen.
Team and Individual Scoring Comparisons
CSI leads the ECC in scoring, averaging 86.9 ppg, while Daemen ranks third at 81.9. Despite the scoring gap, the Wildcats boast the conference's top defense, limiting opponents to just 65.6 points per contest.
Goldstein leads the ECC in scoring at 21.7 ppg and also paces the Dolphins with 36 steals while ranking second on the team with 101 assists. Kone ranks second on the team with 12.7 ppg and leads the conference in field goal percentage at .602 (103-171). Chestnut follows with 11.7 ppg, Tynes with 11.4 and Mitchell Wiggan (11.4) also averaging double figures.
Daemen features four players averaging double-digit scoring, led by a 17.7ppg scorer. He is joined by teammates averaging 16.7, 11.7, and 11.5 ppg respectively.
