WARNER'S THREE RBI DAY LEADS DOLPHINS TO DOUBLEHEADER SPLIT AGAINST CHARGERS

STATEN ISLAND, NY – The College of Staten Island softball team (4-6) hosted a non-conference doubleheader with Dominican University (N.Y.) Friday afternoon.

The Dolphins recorded the game two win for a split decision in the Friday event. Aliveah Warner led the charge at the plate recording three RBI, two of which occurred in game two to aid in the non-conference victory.

Game One: DU 8, CSI 2
The Dolphins fell behind early in game one, surrendering three runs on a three-run homer to give the Chargers a 3–0 lead.

Despite putting eight runners on base, CSI was unable to capitalize, leaving them stranded and remaining scoreless through the first six innings. Jianna Lopez sparked the offense in the bottom of the first with a single and later stole second, but the Dolphins could not bring her home. Over the next several innings, CSI followed a similar pattern, leadoff baserunners followed by three consecutive outs.

Trailing 8–0 in the bottom of the seventh, the Dolphins mounted a late push. Kaylee Cary led off with a single and was replaced by pinch runner Milene Mendoza, who advanced on a sacrifice bunt by Julia Del Masto. Lopez stayed hot at the plate, delivering another single to score Mendoza and put CSI on the board, 8–1. Aliveah Warner followed with an RBI single to make it 8–2, but the rally ended there as the Dolphins dropped the opener.

Lopez and Warner each went 2-4 with an RBI. Cary finished 2-3, while Abbie Morris and Taryn Judson each went 1-3. Kennedie Ruth made her fourth appearance of the season, tossing a complete game with three strikeouts.

Game Two: CSI 7, DU 3

The Chargers struck first in game two, plating a run in the top of the first, but the Dolphins responded in a big way in the bottom of the second. CSI broke through with a six-run inning, sparked by Milene Mendoza's stand-up double. She advanced to third on a failed cut off throw, and shortly after scored on Cary's bunt down the first base line to tie the game at 1-1.

The Dolphins kept the momentum going as Lopez, Warner, and Abbie Morris each delivered RBI at-bats to extend the lead to 6-1.

Both teams were held scoreless over the next two innings until the bottom of the sixth, when Rose Joseph lined a single to bring home Morris for CSI's final run of the day, making it 7-1. The Chargers added two runs late, but the Dolphins held on for a 7-3 win to earn a split of the doubleheader.

Warner led the offense with two RBI while going 3-4 at the plate, and Lopez added two RBI of her own. Morris finished 2-3. In the circle, Marena Grenier earned her third win of the season, tossing a complete game with six strikeouts.

The College of Staten Island returns to the CSI Softball Complex on Sunday for a non-conference doubleheader against Felician University at 2:00 PM and 4:00 PM.
