SOFTBALL BATTLES WITH FELICIAN FOR A NON-CONFERENCE SPLIT

STATEN ISLAND, NY – The College of Staten Island softball team hosted Felician University for a non-conference doubleheader at the CSI Softball Complex on Sunday afternoon.

The Dolphins battled through both contests to earn a split, dropping game one, 9-6, before bouncing back for a 4-2 victory in game two.

Game One: Felician 9, CSI 6
The opener turned into an offensive battle early. Aliveah Warner continued her strong stretch, driving in the game's first run with an RBI single to score Jianna Lopez for a 1-0 lead.

Felician responded in the top of the third, plating four runs to take a 4-1 advantage.

The Dolphins answered with their biggest inning of the day in the bottom half. Presley Borne led off and later scored on an RBI single by Lopez to cut the deficit to 4-2. With the bases loaded and one out, two runs came home on a wild pitch to tie the game.

CSI continued to apply pressure as Milene Mendoza delivered an RBI single to score Abbie Morris and give the Dolphins a 5-4 lead. Moments later, aggressive baserunning paid off when Jaelyn Martinez, pinch running for Taryn Judson, scored on a throw to second to extend the lead to 6-4.

Felician chipped away with a run in the fifth before erupting for four runs in the sixth to regain control and secure the 9-6 win.

Lopez led the Dolphins at the plate, going 2-4 with an RBI, while Mendoza added an RBI in a 1-2 effort.

Game Two: CSI 4, Felician 2
The second game featured a much different pace, evolving into a pitchers' duel. CSI struck first, capitalizing on a Felician error to take a 1-0 lead.

After Felician tied the game in the third, the Dolphins quickly responded. Lopez sparked the inning with a double down the left field line before Warner launched a two-run home run, her first of the season and third of her career, to give CSI a 3-1 advantage.

Felician evened the score again in the fourth, but the Dolphins answered once more. Julia Del Masto singled and later scored on a Lopez sacrifice fly to put CSI ahead for good, 4-2. From there, Marena Grenier controlled the game in the circle, finishing off a complete-game effort with three strikeouts to secure her fourth win of the season and the split for CSI, improving the Dolphins to 5-7 overall.

Warner led the offense, going 3-3 with two RBI, two runs scored, and a home run. Morris added a 2-3 performance, while Lopez, Borne, Del Masto, and Kaylee Cary each recorded a hit.

The Dolphins return to action at the CSI Softball Complex on Tuesday, hosting Holy Family for a non-conference doubleheader beginning at 3:00 PM.
