LAKEWOOD, NJ – The College of Staten Island men's soccer team hit the road for the first time this season on Wednesday, taking on non-conference opponent Georgian Court University. The Dolphins fell behind early and ultimately dropped a 4-1 decision to the Lions.
Georgian Court wasted little time applying pressure, firing a shot in the opening two minutes to establish early control. The Dolphins responded with a corner kick opportunity, and Yair Roman's first attempt of the afternoon found its way toward the target, but the Lions' goalkeeper made the save to keep the game scoreless.
Moments later, Georgian Court earned a penalty kick and converted the opportunity to take a 1-0 lead.
The Dolphins entered halftime trailing by just one, with the Lions holding a narrow 6-5 advantage in shots during an evenly matched opening 45 minutes. Georgian Court came out strong once again in the second half, finding the back of the net early to double its lead and shift the momentum firmly in favor of the hosts. The Lions would add two more goals to take a 4-0 advantage with just four minutes remaining in the day.
The Dolphins responded late, as Manuel Mendez carried the ball down the field before finding Deniz Karcher, who finished the opportunity for CSI's lone goal of the afternoon. The goal marked Karcher's first of the season.
Karcher led the Dolphins with a goal on two shots, while Kambouris added an assist and one shot. Dylan Meadows, making his CSI debut, recorded three shots, with all three finding the target. Luca Schelling made his second appearance in goal this season and recorded four saves. With the loss, the Dolphins fall to 0-2 on the season.
CSI will remain on the road for another non-conference matchup on Saturday, when the Dolphins travel to Orangeburg, NY, to take on Dominican University New York at 2:30 PM.
