College of Staten Island women's soccer was defeated by New Jersey City Univeristy, 6-1, at the CSI Soccer Complex. The Gothic Knights extended their record to 15-5 while the Dolphins dropped to 9-4 overall.
NJCU scored twenty minutes into the half to start things off with an unassisted goal by Julia Caseres. Ten minutes later, Caseres sent a good cross pass to assist a goal by Ashley Cunha on an open net to finalize the first half score at 2-0.
At 53 minutes, Cunha struck again this time off a Gabrielle Clarke pass to score from the left side. Eight minutes later, NCU's Jennifer Albuja stole the ball from CSI to dribble in for an unassisted goal to put the score at 4-0. At 76 minutes, for the hat trick, Cunha scored her third goal after she rebounded a shot by Alexis Frees. Refusing to be shutout, just two minutes later, Natalie Tombasco stole the ball to score the Dolphins lone goal. With four minutes remaining in the game, Kelsey Plaskon scored the final goal of the game off a corner kick with the assist by Caseres.
Splitting time, goalie Victoria Donegan had two saves in the first half while Danielle McLaughlin had five in the second half. Demi-Jean Martorano had two shots for CSI. NJCU's Cunha totaled 10 shots with four on-goal and a hat trick.
The Dolphins will return to conference play on Saturday, October 23 as they travel to Aviator Field for a 2:00 pm game against Medgar Evers.
