BARUCH HANDS CSI HEAVY LOSS ON PITCH

The College of Staten Island men's soccer team saw their season opening winless streak hit eight games, as visiting Baruch College handed the Dolphins a numbing 7-1 loss at the CSI Soccer Complex in CUNYAC men's soccer action played earlier this afternoon.  The win bolted the Bearcats up to 3-3-1 overall and 1-1 in CUNY, while the Dolphins fell to 0-7-1, 0-2, respectively.

Although Baruch controlled play for most of the first half, it was a spirited stanza with opportunities on both sides.  The game stayed scoreless through the first twenty minutes as both teams fought for quality chances.  The Bearcats seemed content with letting the Dolphins enter the zone only to launch fierce counterattacks to the Dolphins end.  The strategy worked, when at the 21:47 mark, BC tallied.  Jonas Jouzatis did the honors, taking a gorgeous Mara Gubaydullin lead pass into the box, side-stepping CSI keeper Ahmed El-Ghareib, and putting the tally home to make it 1-0.

The counterattack led to another dazzling goal for Baruch just under eight minutes later.  As CSI was pushing attackers into the Baruch zone, Sean Dickerson intercepted a CSI pass and used his lightning speed to race passed the CSI defenders and come in one-on-one with El-Ghareib.  He sank his shot to make it 2-0.

The game got interesting, when CSI got on the board in the closing minutes of the first half.  A Dogan Altunsoy lead pass found a streaking Kenneth Zaw, who saw an open look from the top left of he goal box and unleashed a heavy hot passed Bearcat keeper Michael Murphy.  The score was 2-1 at intermission and seemingly anyone's game.  But the Bearcats used intermission to get motivated and came out thunderous in the second frame.

Just over three minutes in, Igor Polisski received a give and go pass from Ibek Abdrahamonv and swerved into the box and hit the far side of the net to give Baruch a big 3-1 advantage.  CSI cried foul, thinking the play was offsides, but it was not to be.  From there, it was all Bearcats, as the team added four more goals.  The first two of the four were by Juozitis, who completed the hat trick at the 72:02 mark.  Gubaydullin scored a penalty shot goal at 75:31, when CSI forward Ibrahim Mubaric was red-carded in the box for using his hands to block a goal.

CSI will get another crack to strike the win column on Wednesday, when they host York College for a 3:30pm match at the CSI Soccer Complex.
