College of Staten Island Men's Soccer took their first win of the season against the 2010 CUNYAC Champions York College, 4-2. The exciting win put CSI's record at 1-7 overall and 1-2 in the CUNYAC while York took their first CUNYAC loss, 1-1, and fell 2-5 overall.
Six minutes into the game Kenneth Zaw saw the Dolphins first goal as he drew York's goalie Pierrson Pierre-Louis out of the net and shot the ball right past him. His goal was assisted by a cross pass from Don Luu. The Dolphins tallied 10 shots in the first half to York's mere five.
Feeling hot the Dolphins continued their work to start the second half. Fifteen minutes in, CSI goalkeeper Ahmed El-Ghareib free kicked the ball cross field to meet Luu's feet and from there the freshman dribbled in to score CSI's second goal of the game and his first of the season. Confidence high, up next was Alen Desevic. Dogan Altunsoy sent a cross pass to meet Desevic who cleared his defender out of the way and sent the ball straight past the goaltender.
York would not go out silently. They scored their first goal ten minutes later off a double assisted (Jaime Hay and Hugo Cicanois) goal from Jonathan Ushyarov. At the 41 minute mark, a pass from Rachidi Amadolu helped Khadim Kebe close the gap to 3-2 after scoring with CSI's goalie El-Ghareib out of the goal.
With three minutes left York was looking to tie the score. York's Ushyarov sent a high long shot that met the hands of El-Ghareib who jumped straight up to make a fantastic save and deflect the ball over the goalpost.
For the second time in the game the duo of Desevic and Altunsoy helped cushion the win for CSI in the remaining two minutes. Altunsoy sent a quick pass to Desevic who just as fast sent the ball right into the net.
Two yellowcards were given out to York College; Mclaney Moise and Kebe, both for rough play.
The Dolphins finished with 25 attempted shots; York totaled 14.
El-Ghareib had a great game in goal for CSI totaling six saves. Luu and Zaw attempted five shots each while also adding a goal each.
The Dolphins will be back in action again on Saturday, September 25th against CCNY at Randall's field at 9:30 am.
