The College of Staten Island women's tennis team won for the second time in its last three outing by a 9-0 count, this time breezing by John Jay College as part of CUNYAC action on Friday at the CSI Tennis Center. The win lifted CSI to 3-5 overall and 3-1 in conference play, while John Jay dipped to 0-2, 0-2, respectively.
The Dolphins made relatively short work of the young Bloodhounds, only surrenting games in six of the matches nine flights. In doubles, CSI teams of Alene Vedeneeva and
Jean Baak at No. 2, and
Faith Avevor and
Maryna Incherchera at No. 3 held down 8-0 games to get CSI started. The Dolphins made it 3-0, as the top doubles team of
Ilona Stoyko and
Demi-Jean Martorano powered by Ashley Marrero and Lauren Mallon, 8-4.
When play turned to Singles, Stoyko (No. 2), Baak (No. 4), Incherchera (No. 5), and
Katie Masterson (No. 6), all scored 6-0, 6-0, wins. At No. 3 Singles, Martorano, blew by Melissa Figeroua, 6-0, 6-1, while Vedeneeva scored a 6-0, 6-2, win over Marrero.
The Dolphins are back in action on Tuesday, October 4, when they face Hunter College at 3:30pm.
