CSI MEN'S SKID HITS THREE WITH LOSS TO YORK

Box Score The College of Staten Island men's basketball team fell for the third straight outing tonight, dropping a CUNYAC contest to visiting York College, 70-58, in a game played at the Sports & Recreation Center in Staten Island.  With the conference season finalizing this week, the Dolphins fell to 14-7 overall and 9-2 in CUNYAC play, while the win lifted the Cardinals to 7-15, 5-5, respectively.

In a game that featured just a pair of lead changes it was the visiting Cardinals that dictated play through most of the game.  The Dolphins could muster only a single field goal through the first 6:10 of the opening stanza, falling behind 8-2 in the early minutes.  Later, a 9-2 York run, spearheaded by a Marcel Esonwune inside drive and a Shamir Wilkinson three gave the Cardinals their first double-digit lead at 18-7, with 9:42 to play.

CSI needed a wake-up call, and received it via a 15-4 run over the next five minutes, punctuated by a pair of Louis Valdes three-pointers and an inside lay-in.  Valdes later gave the Dolphins the lead at 27-26 with 2:37 to go, but failed to score the rest of the way as York took a 30-27 lead into the lockers.

York wasted no time in the second stanza, as a Kevin Lausell three-point bomb got York started on a 13-4 run, ballooning the Cardinals lead to 41-32 with 15:22 to go.  CSI chipped away, closing to six points on four occasions before a Bloochy Magliore three cut the York lead to 54-52 with 5:01 to play.  But as was the recurring theme all evening, York had an answer, this time using a 12-2 run over the next four minutes to seal the deal as CSI shot just 1-for-9 from the field in the closing five minutes to eventually post the 12 point loss.

Esonwune led the way for York, as the All-American tallied 21 points, 15 rebounds and 9 blocked shots.  William Holley garnered 14 points despite 10 turnovers, while Lausell finished with 12 markers.  For CSI, Valdes led the Dolphins with 20 points, part of a 35-8 CSI advantage in points coming off of the bench.  Magliore finished with 13 points.  CSI shot its poorest on the season, connecting on just 31.8% from the floor (21-66).

CSI will be looking to break their skid when they next take action on Wednesday, February 9, when they host Medgar Evers College at 7:30pm.
