FARMINGDALE GETS ONE PAST WOMEN'S TENNIS, 5-4

College of Staten Island women's tennis fell to Farmingdale State Rams in a close 5-4 match on Saturday afternoon at the CSI Tennis Center. The Dolphins drop to a 0-2 overall record.
 
The Dolphins were down 2-1 after doubles with Illona Stoyko and Sophia Varriano taking the lone win as they defeated their opponents in No.1 doubles, 9-7. Jessica Sickles defeated Varriano in No.1 singles by a score of 6-2, 6-0 while Alex Bentz took the win over Stoyko is No.2 singles with a 6-0, 6-3 finish. The Dolphins strength came from the middle singles flights where Alena Vedeneeva defeated Kristina Rossano in a competitive 6-1, 4-6, 10-5 win and Jean Baak defeated Lilya Dyakiv 6-1, 6-2. Laura Earlie of the Rams defeated Faith Avevor in a 6-1, 6-2 finish while Maryna Incherchera defeated Rachel Tomasulo in No.6 singles.
 
“Our team is young and we are building,” said head coach Paul Ricciardi, “However, it's just the start of the season and I have faith that the team will come together to better the season.”
 
CSI will host Baruch College in their first match of conference play on Tuesday, September 13 at 3:30 pm.
