DOLPHINS BASEBALL TAKES TWINBILL FROM LEHMAN

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 The College of Staten Island swept both games of a doubleheader on Saturday afternoon by the scores of 14-5 and 16-4 to hand the Lightning its first two conference losses of the season and drop the team to 5-3 overall.  The wins snapped a seven-game slide for the Dolphins, extending the team to 8-10 overall and 2-0 in CUNYAC play.

The Dolphins scored 10 runs over the fourth and fifth innings to break open a 3-3 tie in the first game and then pounded out 16 hits in the second game.

Lehman was especially sloppy in the field in the opening contest, committing seven errors, which CSI made them pay for by stroking 12 hits.

Trailing 3-0, Lehman took advantage of an error, a passed ball and a wild pitch to plate three runs on two hits in the bottom of the third to pull even.

Though CSI took the lead right back in the top of the fourth with three runs, it was the fifth inning, when the Dolphins posted a seven spot, that proved to be the nail in the coffin for Lehman.  Bryan Moreno and James Lewis each drove in a run with base hits while Sal Todaro plated a pair with a two-run single.  Anthony Storz closed out the game with an inning of scoreless relief for CSI.

CSI scored in every inning of play against a quartet of Lehman hurlers in the second contest to help take the doubleheader sweep.  Starter Francisco Sanchez took the brunt of the attack, allowing eight runs on nine hits in three innings of work.

For the second straight game Lehman's defense was shaky as the team committed eight errors.

CSI and Lehman will complete their three-game set on Sunday at 12 Noon at thhe CSI Baseball Complex.   The gam will not count towards their CUNYAC record.
