LAST MINUTE OVERTIME GOAL SEES CSI MEN PREVAIL

Box Score The College of Staten Island men's soccer team broke their mini two game skid with a game wining goal in the last minute of the final overtime over Berkeley College (NY), 2-1, as part of a non-conference game at the CSI Soccer complex. With the victory, CSI evens up their overall record at 3-3, while Berkeley-NY fell to 0-5.

After the first 45 minutes of action neither team was able to put one through the net, despite CSI leading in shots, 9-6. In the second frame, after a barrage of shots from the Dolphins, junior Nedgy Nazon was able to squeeze one through at the 67:41 mark to put the Dolphins up, 1-0. Alfonso Castaneda was credited with the assist, winning the ball in the midfield and feed Nazon. For the next 19 minutes the Dolphins stayed conservative while the Knights were on the attack. With under three minutes to play, the Knights where deep in the Dolphins' box, when Ahmet Colak fed a ball to Dare Aniyikaye at the top of the box that the latter was able to bullet through the upper right hand corner tying the game at 1-1 in the 87th minute. The score would hold up to send the game into overtime despite a 28-13 edge for the Dolphins in shots taken.

In the first overtime, both teams showed some tired legs as only a total of five shots were taken. In the second and final overtime CSI was on the attack, but the Knights did not back down, going back and fourth for the first five minutes. In the final five minutes of play, the Dolphins put more pressure on the Knights, tallying five shots. With one minute to play, Michele Kissi chipped a pass to a sprinting Nazon who softly shot the ball passed Knights keepr Gustavo Moreno, scoring the game-winner with just 58 seconds left on the clock.

The Dolphins won the shooting battle 39-17, while Moreno racked up 12 saves. Nazon led the Dolphins with four shots on goal, including the game winner. The Knights where led by Abdelwahab Mohamed who had three shots on goal.

The Dolphins will next travel on the road to take on the Culinary Institute of America for a 1:00 pm non-conference contest on Saturday, September 15.
