The College of Staten Island women's tennis team dropped a narrow decision on Saturday, falling to Farmingdale State in a non-conference test in Farmingdale, New York, 5-4. CSI dipped to 1-3 with the loss while the Rams improved to 3-1.
Farmingdae got the advantage it needed after doubles play, taking two out of three flights. CSI scored a win at the No. 2 position, where the team of
Ilona Stoyko and
Jean Baak outdid Laura Earlie and Amanda Vecchio, 8-0. Playing with only five players, CSI was forced to concede the No. 3 position.
The same held true for the No. 6 Singles position, so CSI was behind 3-1 when singles began, Needing four out of the five remaining flights to win, CSI came close but it was not to be. The Dolphins won flights 3-5, with Baak, Mediha Mulla and
Nataliya Zitser all taking wins. Farmingdale State's Jessica Sickles and Alex Bentz both cruised at flights 1-2 to clinch the Rams victory.
CSI will return to action on Monday, when they travel to the Bronx to take on Lehman College at 4pm.
