Streak Continues With Win Over Sarah Lawrence


BRONXVILLE, NY - The College of Staten Island women's tennis team had little trouble topping Sarah Lawrence, 7-2, Friday evening. With the win the Dolphins improve to 10-1 on the season, winning their fourth straight match.

In doubles action, Ilona Stoyko and Sabrina Bragerton-Nasert got things started at the No. 1 position, defeating the duo of Nora Landes and Kayla Pincus 8-3, giving the Dolphins an early lead.

Playing at No.2 singles, CSI duo Madiha Mulla and Nazima Toshpulatova took down Lane Garber and Sarah Fiordaliso, clinching the doubles point.

At No.3, after the doubles point was decided, Jacqueline Jamaleddine and Michelle Kushnir fell in a heavy-handed match against SLC's Autumn Atkinson and Juliet Slade 4-8.

In singles play, Stoyko lead the charge for the Dolphins, defeating Landes 10-5 at No. 1 to give the Dolphins a 3-1 lead. At No. 2, Bragerton-Nasert defeated Sarah Pyatt 10-3 to give CSI a 4-1 lead. The Dolphins was just shy of a singles sweep, as No. 3 Mulla fell to Atkinson, 10-4.

Toshpulatova  made quick work of her opponent defeating Cecilia Ross, 10-0 at No. 4, and secured victory for the Dolphins. Kushnir defeated Garber, 10-4 at No. 5 while Jamaleddine wrapped up play for CSI, defeating Moni Spancheska 10-6 at No. 6.

The Dolphins return to action Saturday, Oct. 12 at 12 p.m. when they host Lehman College.
