The College of Staten Island women's tennis team finalized the CUNYAC portion of their schedule this afternoon, bouncing Lehman College, 9-0, in a match played at the CSI Tennis Center. CSI improved to 12-1 overall and 7-0 with the win, while the Lightning fell to 4-10, 2-5, respectively.
CSI was up from start to finish, aided but a very strong 3-0 lead after doubles play where they only surrendered a single game. the No. 1 team of
Ilona Stoyko and
Sabrina Bragerton-Nasert and the No. 3 unit of
Jean Baak and
Michelle Kushnir both won their matches, 8-0, while
Madiha Mulla and
Nozima Toshpulatova defeated Lynessa George and Kantomalala Rasedor, 8-1.
When play switched over to singles, CSI had similar success, winning all of their matches in straight sets.
Jacqueline Jamaleddine, who did not play doubles, scored a 6-2, 6-3, win at No. 6, coming from Clove Lake Park where she finished a 5k cross-country race with the women's cross-country team.
CSI's 7-0 CUNYAC mark clinches them the CUNYAC Regular Season Championship, and with it, a No. 1 seed in the CUNYAC Postseason Tournament, which begins a week from tomorrow, where they will face No. 8 York College (seedings not yet official) at the CSI Tennis Center.
