Box Score The College of Staten Island men's soccer team won for the second straight time in a little more than 48 hours, this time toppling visiting Bard College on Senior Day by a 3-0 count at the CSI Soccer Complex. CSI lifted its overall mark to 6-10-1, while the Raptors fell for the seventh straight outing, going to 2-13 overall. Prior to the game, CSI honored its two lone seniors,
Mubaric Ibrahim and
Anh Le.
CSI controlled the tempo most of the way and scattered 17 first half shots in the Bard end. Many of them however were blocked and fell wide of the mark, but at 23:25, a corner kick by
Ali Fares was headed on by Nobel Hadgu, who registered his first goal of the year into the top corner of the net to stake CSI to a 1-0 edge. That lead would hold up till halftime, as CSI keeper
John Gioeli needed to only make one save at his end through 45 minutes.
In the second frame, with the Raptors pressing, CSI scored one of their better goals on the season on a beautifully timed play.
Thomas Vazquez sent a horizontal pass to
Peter Hanna, who dropped the ball off to an overlapping Nicholas Baccarella who calmly ran in on goal and fired a shot passed Bard keeper Daniel Gagne to give CSI a 2-0 edge with 37 minutes to play.
Sixteen minutes later, CSI added another insurance goal, when
Daniel Tsygankov settled down a high pass from
Alfonso Castaneda and drilled a shot into the net to give CSI more cushion than it would need.
The Dolphins outshot Bard, 27-17 (8-7 on goal), but did well to control the more quality chances. CSI also led the corner kick count, 7-2, and forced the Raptors into 9 offsides calls.
CSI gets a lengthy break before returning to play Brooklyn College on Saturday, October 19, at 2pm in Brooklyn, NY.
