OLD WESTBURY, NY - The College of Staten Island swimming & diving teams opened the 2013-14 season on a high note as both the men's and women's teams were victorious against both SUNY-Old Westbury and Brooklyn College in a tri-meet, Tuesday.

On the men's side, CSI outscored Brooklyn 78-17 and posted 56 points to Old Westbury's 39. For the women, Staten Island registered a 65-30 win over Old Westbury and edged out CUNYAC foe BC, 48-47 for the 'W'.

In a meet full of highlights for the Dolphins, it was Adrianne Vivas who stole the afternoon as she posted victories in both the 500 and 1000-yard freestyle. In her first event of the afternoon, Vivas dominated the competition as she clocked a time of 12:24.75, setting a CSI school record while coming in a full 1:38 ahead of the closest finisher. Later in the meet, the record-breaking continued as she posted a time of 6:02.54 in the 500, taking the event.

Turning to the men, both
Yury Zimarev and
Danila Novikov nabbed a pair of victories in their respective events. Zimarev registered his first individual win in the 200 freestyle as he hit the wall at the 2:07.65 mark, with the closest competitor finishing five seconds later. Not much later, he took to the water again where he blew away the competition, taking a three-second lead and clocking a time of 53.72.

Not to be overshadowed was Novikov, as he made a splash in the 200 IM after finishing an incredible 35-seconds ahead of the competition with a time of 2:00.09. The junior went on to take the top-spot in the 100 backstroke as he edged-out OW's Bryan Woodhead by less than a second, clocking a time of 55.83.

Also standing out in the season-opener was
Dakota Dawkins and freshman Tim Sweeney. Dawkins took the women's 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:16.91, while Sweeney posted a win in the men's 1000 free with a time of 10:12.20.

The CSI women's swimming & diving team will return to action Friday at 6 p.m., when they host John Jay College. Both teams will return to the pool Wednesday, Nov. 6, when they host conference foe Baruch College. First race is scheduled to start at 6 p.m.
