DOLPHINS FALL TO CCNY IN CLOSE BATTLE

Box Score

It was a chilly day at the CSI Soccer Complex where the men's soccer team took on conference foe City College of New York in a defensive battle, and while the Dolphins outshot CCNY 17-7, the Beavers posted a 1-0 win, Wednesday.

The Dolphins (4-10-1, 2-3 CUNYAC) took control of the game early on, limiting the Beavers shots and keeping them defense throughout the 90-minutes of play. While CCNY was busy on defense, Staten Island was busy making their way to the net as they registered seven shots in the first period.

The game remained scoreless for nearly 35 minutes, when the Beavers were able to capitalize on an opportunity as CSI goalkeeper John Gioeli stepped out of the goal to grab the ball, but missed leaving the goal unprotected and allowing CCNY's Nicolas Corrao to score the lone goal of the afternoon.

The Dolphins dominated the second half of play, registering 11 shots and taking five corner kicks. On the afternoon, Gioeli recorded two saves while CCNY goalkeeper Maxwell Berkow tallied four.

CSI will return to action Saturday against Lehman College at the CSI Soccer Complex. The game is scheduled to start at 3pm.
